Carman Lake Recovery

by Margaret on October 10, 2017

A gift of time this morning allowed me to hike into Carman Lake via old Cafferty Road.  I love that old road and still feel disappointed that the NCC stopped maintaining it.  In fact, no longer is there even an old road sign indicating its history!  And what a gift this morning was – fog highlighting the colours on the ridge as I walked along and the colours so beautifully intense because of the early hour.  I don’t hike into Carman Lake often in the summer so I was delighted to see it looking so lush and appearing to have recovered from the assault of the previous spring when the beaver dam was breached and the lake level dropped.

Here are a few photos taken today as well as a photo from the spring of 2016 when I discovered the dropped water. (As an aside, when I contacted the NCC at that time about the beaver dam being destroyed asking if they had done it I got a response that said perhaps a bear had done it.  To which I replied – a bear with dynamite?)
