Perspectives on a Waterfall

This week I spent a delightful couple of days with Harry Nowell, my photography mentor/coach, attempting to expand my way of seeing and hone my skills related to depth of field. We explored photo opportunities, mostly of waterfalls or rapids, in the Mont Tremblant area. I’m always attracted to flowing water and rocks, and this spot, the waterfall adjacent to the ski area on Mont Tremblant, was particularly attractive: we found the dark orange of the wet rocks absolutely stunning.

I took a number of photos of the waterfall itself exploring varying compositions and shutter speeds trying to discern my own preferred expression of flowing water.  This spot was just so beautiful, with the sun sliding in and out from behind clouds, that we sat for quite a while simply basking in the beautiful colours and sounds of water.  It was only after sitting for a while that I had relaxed enough to see the beautiful rocks and flowing water in a new way and discovered that my preferred way of expressing this beautiful waterfall was with close ups, which allowed the details of the beautiful colours in the rocks to shine through.  I hope you enjoy these photos of rocks and water.
