Late Afternoon Solitude

by Margaret on March 17, 2017

I didn’t want to miss the soft snow today even though the earlier part of my day had been full. So with a late start to my outing I found myself returning from snowshoeing to Brown Lake in the late afternoon light.  And, it was beautiful!

I experience such a solitude in the  Carman and Brown Lakes area as the trails there get much less traffic than other parts of the Park.  Today I had the forest to myself:  I had to break trail at the beginning and then when I reached the official trail there were tracks in the snow from no more than two snowshoers and one hiker.  (I really don’t why someone would hike in new soft snow.  It sure looked to me like hard slogging).

The blue sky was so stunning over Brown Lake I lingered there longer than normal so was late taking the return trip back to the car.   The trip back was mesmerizing as I was surrounded on all sides by the beauty of long afternoon shadows on the snow,  It all took my breath away.   Its at times like this that I feel so blessed to be able to be ‘out there’ soaking in all this beauty.
