Carman Lake, Revisited.

This past May I visited one of my favourite spots, Carman Lake, to discover the beaver dam had been destroyed and the water level of the lake lowered to the point that a good portion of the lake was left as mudflats.  I was shocked and saddened to see the loss of the rich variety of wildfowl and beaver. So this week I returned to see how the lake was faring in this new environment and whatever has happened to the beaver.

Nature’s restorative ability is amazing.  Just look at the lush green growth that now replaces the moon-like appearance of the lake in May (see photo at the bottom). Wherever I looked there was a profusion of wildflowers around the shoreline. It was a serene setting with a flock of young Canada Geese, but sadly, no indication of any beaver activity.  I do wonder where they’ve gone.
